Dr. Karin Gleason Psychologist, PhD, CPsych (she, her)
At West London Psychology, I am pleased to spend my time working with adults, adolescents and families looking to improve their wellbeing and relationships.
In my practice as a clinical psychologist, I have twenty years of experience in a variety of settings such as private practice primarily with adults and a regional children’s centre. I am also a Clinical Adjunct Professor with the Department of Psychology at Western University.
I take an integrative approach in my therapy work to address issues of anxiety, depression, difficulties managing relationships, emotions, grief and trauma. I believe that experiences in our families and early relationships have an important role in shaping who we are, including our thoughts, feelings and beliefs, and influence how we are affected by our experiences throughout our lives. Understanding our attachment experiences, our own needs in relationships, and how we can learn to cope with emotions will help us make the changes we want in our lives as individuals and as parents.
Taking a collaborative approach to exploring experiences, beliefs and emotions in a supportive therapeutic relationship is often an important focus of therapy. Cognitive-behavioural and emotion-focused therapy approaches for negative thoughts or strong emotions that often occur in anxiety and depression may be important components of therapy depending on an individual’s needs.
Of particular interest to me are the concerns and issues that arise from difficult or changing family relationships, including the challenges of family transitions such as coping with or parenting through loss or divorce, the unique experiences of parenting children and youth with special needs, and the blending of families.
