Dr. Carey Anne DeOliveira Psychologist, PhD, CPsych (she, her)
As a clinical psychologist, I have worked in London, Ontario for over two decades in a variety of hospital and community settings. I now spend most of my time in private practice at West London Psychology. In my private practice work, I focus on parenting consultation and individual therapy for clients across the lifespan.
My training and clinical work draws from a variety of therapeutic approaches from cognitive-behavioural approaches to more emotion-focused and relational models. I strongly value the role of emotions, empathic understanding, and relationships in meaningful psychotherapy, and I tend to take a curious, open, and collaborative approach to assessment and treatment.
I am interested in understanding how early childhood experiences and negative life events can impact the roadmap that we use to navigate through our later lives and relationships; the way that we unconsciously and consciously learn to protect ourselves from future hurts. I focus on helping clients to be able to understand their own inner worlds, including their own protective strategies and deeper emotional experiences (and/or those of their children). In this way, my goal is to support clients in living their lives in a way that feels meaningful, resilient, and self-compassionate, even during times of stress and pain.
In addition to my private practice work, I am also an adjunct professor with the Department of Psychology at Western University. In that role I enjoy teaching, mentoring, and supervising trainees in the field of clinical psychology.
